The Indiana Department of Transportation and the U.S. 30 West ProPEL team will host office hours Wednesday, March 22 from noon to 2 p.m. CT at the Hamlet Branch of the Starke County Public Library System for interested residents to ask questions about the ProPEL planning studies.
ProPEL US 30 is asking for the input as it begins streamlining planning studies along the U.S. 30 corridor in Northern Indiana. The study seeks to move communities forward by using a collaborative approach to consider community goals early in the process.
In the summer of 2022, INDOT began a two-year study to focus on what U.S. 30 and U.S. 31 would like in the next 20 years based on comments from residents.
The U.S. 30 West study is from State Road 49 in Porter County to West County Road 700 North in Fulton County and Beech Road in Marshall County. The U.S. 31 study is from just south of the Eel River in Miami County to just south of the Fulton/Marshall County line.
A PEL study, or Planning and Environmental Linkages study, combines planning, engineering and environmental reviews, considers local needs and priorities, and packs that all in to an eventual action plan to pursue reasonable alternatives.
The study will run until the fall of 2024.
