The Winamac Town Council members discussed two ordinances during their recent meeting that deal with natural energy.
A net metering ordinance was reviewed. The ordinance allows homeowners to hook up their homes to natural energy such as solar or wind. This signs them up for Indiana Municipal Power Agency’s (IMPA) “Customer Generation” program. If a homeowner chooses to put any energy back on to the meter, IMPA will then write a check to the homeowner to compensate for the energy contribution. A $50 connection fee will still be applied.
Another ordinance sets standards and guidelines for regeneration hook-up. This leaves the homeowner liable to make sure everything is installed and hooked up to code on their end. It indemnifies the Town of Winamac from any damages acquired from not being up to code.
Both ordinances were adopted unanimously.
