In April, the Winamac Town Council will start accepting bids for the downtown project which features new streetlights and sidewalks.
With the new sidewalks and streetlights comes a situation that was brought to the council members. When the new streetlights are installed they will be around five feet shorter than the previous poles, making the Christmas decorations currently used too tall.
If the purchase was made now, they would receive anywhere from 30 to 40 percent in savings through Northern Display Lights. A motion was made to purchase 55 lights for $25,439 by Council member Alvin Parish to be paid for out of the Electric Department funds. The motion passed with a unanimous vote.
The old Christmas decorations will be utilized in the park or elsewhere. If they can not be utilized, then possible donations will be considered.
