Jury Trial Held in Starke Circuit Court

A one-day trial was held this week in Starke Circuit Court.

Tyler Douglas was charged with robbery resulting in bodily injury as a Level 3 Felony, robbery as a Level 5 Felony, and theft as a Level 6 Felony.

A victim provided testimony Wednesday afternoon, along with a co-defendant, Starke County Sheriff’s Department Chief Detective David Combs, and the owner of the residence.

Evidence in this case was presented where one victim in the case arrived back at her grandparents’ home in Starke County to find two men inside her grandparents’ bedroom.  She was pushed into a bookcase, and was injured after she was hit in the face by a black bag containing items.  They then left with several firearms.

The State of Indiana was represented by Starke County Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Poulos and the defendant was represented by Attorney Richard Ballard.

The State rested late Wednesday afternoon.  The defense rested when the trial resumed Thursday morning. By his own rights, the defendant did not take the stand.

The 12-member jury spent about 90 minutes going over the evidence presented by the State and returned not guilty verdicts on each of the three counts charged against Douglas.  With that, Starke County Magistrate Micah Cox, who oversaw the trial proceedings, ordered Douglas released from the charges against him in Starke County.
