In a recent release, Northwest Health-Valparaiso shared its 2022 Community Benefit Report showing the impacts and contributions made to the community and the improved health of its patients over the last year.
In 2022, Northwest Health had a total of 937,400 patient encounters. These encounters include 81,100 patient emergency room visits, 25,800 surgeries and 2,000 child deliveries. They were able to recruit 24 new physicians and paid a total of $300,963,000 in payroll which could then be revenue put back in to the community.
In caring for the community, they ended up with a sum of $32,904,000 in charity and uncompensated care. They have helped to support 40 local community organizations and have spent $32,682,000 locally putting their total community investment for the year at $429,129,000.
Northwest Health has now added a third location in Michigan City and has expanded Northwest Health Lakeshore Surgicare in Chesterton. Advanced Gastroenterology has added new locations in La Porte County to provide more convenient access to care, while ground has been broken for a Northwest Medical Group-Primary Care office in Valparaiso.
More than $48,000,000 in tax dollars paid has been used to support critical infrastructure such as schools and roads.
They have recently launched an accredited family medicine residency program to train new primary care physicians plus they are the site for seven colleges educating nurses, emergency medical technicians, nurse practitioners and more.
Northwest Health-Porter received an ‘A’ rating and Northwest Health-La Porte received a ‘B’ rating from the Leapfrog watchdog group for hospital safety and quality.
