Oregon-Davis School Board Updated on Study Program

The Oregon-Davis School Board was updated on the Strengthening Bobcats study program at a recent meeting.

Strengthening Bobcats is a remediation program where kids meet twice a week for an hour-and-a-half after school to study and prepare for the upcoming I-Learn and I-Read tests.

In this program, students worked on reading comprehension, writing and math. The students’ favorite activity was the Escape Room on paper where they had to extract clues from the reading material in order to “escape”.

The 3rd grade had 13 students attend 21 classes and held a 70% attendance rate. All but one of those students passed their I-Read tests.

The 4th grade had 11 students that met 12 times with an 82% attendance, and 5th and 6th grades had 10 students who met 9 times. They held a 70% attendance rate.

For the I-Learn and I-Read testing, faculty tried a new system of splitting up the students into seven smaller groups per grade, with staff assigned to each group. This helped to keep the children focused and on track with the task at hand.

I-Learn will be adopting new testing in the future which will start using quarterly assessments with one final cumulative assessment at the end of the year.

Oregon-Davis Elementary Principal Heather Quinn stated she feels like this is something they have already been preparing for and are ready for the changes when they come.
