Six people were injured in a two-vehicle rollover accident that occurred just after 2 p.m. CT on U.S. 30 at 600 E. in Hamlet Thursday, April 13.
The Hamlet Police Department was first to arrive at the scene where two people were reportedly found entrapped. The Hamlet Police Department, Starke County Sheriff’s Department, fire and EMS personnel assisted in safely getting the people out of the vehicles and treated people who had already gotten free of the wreckage.
According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, 29-year-old Jamie Reynolds of Hamlet was driving a 2000 Chevy Silverado with four passengers south across U.S. 30 when police say the driver failed to notice an eastbound 2012 Ford F250 pulling a trailer on U.S. 30 driven by 31-year-old Terrence Blanton of Tennessee.
Two juveniles and one adult were airlifted from the scene, while one adult and one juvenile were transported by medics to South Bend for treatment, according to the report. Police say one other injured person was taken by ambulance to Northwest Health Starke for treatment.
Police believe that alcohol and drugs were not factors the crash.
The Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the Hamlet Police Department were assisted at the scene by the Walkerton Police Department, Starke County EMS, La Porte County EMS, Walkerton EMS, Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department, Knox-Center Township Fire Department, Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department, Washington Township Fire Department, La Porte County Hazmat, IDEM, and Starke County Emergency Management Agency.
