The Winamac Town Council voted to commit $250,000 for a new pumper truck for the Fire Department at a recent Winamac Town Council meeting.
Talks of purchasing a new fire engine have been ongoing for years but with their main engine getting older (1994) and not performing well on pump tests, it was time to put talk to action. The fire department and townships will be working together to purchase a new truck, but with a new truck costing anywhere from $400,000 to $500,000, they may not be able to cover the full cost. With this motion, the town would help cover the remainder of the cost, the town would own the lease to purchase agreement and the fire engine would be titled to the town.
Council Member Tom Murray made a motion to commit the $250,000 requested. The motion was passed unanimously by the council with Council President Larry Weaver abstaining his vote due to his work on the fire department.
