Renovations on the Veterans Memorial Swinging Bridge in the Winamac Town Park are almost complete. New lights, security cameras and rip rap still need to be added.
An issue arose after the bridge was painted. It is not known if it was possibly from a frost after fresh paint was applied, but the white on the lower part of the bridge on both sides has begun to wash off. During a discussion with the Winamac Town Council members at a recent meeting, Brandi Larkin of the Pulaski County Tribe shared an idea of getting a mural painted on the bridge where it needs repainted. She has an artist in mind who has already done several murals for them. Concerns of the mural getting graffiti on it were voiced but Larkin said that that is an issue no matter where they put their murals and that her artist lives close enough so he can do touch-ups if necessary.
Pulaski County Tribe members say the mural must be a tribute to our Veterans. The Winamac Town Council members were all in agreement that it was a great idea. The Pulaski County Tribe will now begin the process of seeking community input and looking for ideas. One way to contact them is through e-mail at pulaskicountytribe@gmail.com.
