The Constellation of Starke Creatives Network is excited to celebrate World Environment Day through their Explore the Forest Events this June.
The events are being held at the Starke County Forest, located at 10655 East Division Road in Knox. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CT on Sunday, June 4th and Monday, June 5th with guided hikes being led from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. CT.
Starke County Forest Manager Bruce Wakeland will help lead the hikes on both days but on Sunday, June 4, he will be joined by Environmental Educator Paul Steury who will address native edible plants and the topic of global warming as well as Bill Deeter, the Indiana Chapter Chairman of the American Chestnut Foundation.
During the hikes on Monday, June 5, Wakeland will be joined by Knox Science Teacher Mark Krom who will discuss different types of bird species who frequent the forest and Indiana Department of Natural Resources Forester Ben Wilson who will touch on invasive plants and management assistance programs. Nature lovers and creatives of all kinds are encouraged to bring along their cameras, easels, sketchpads, notebooks and other artistic tools to use as they gain inspiration from the Starke County Forest.
These events are being offered to the community through the Starke County Park Board and the COS Creatives Network with funding from Lilly Endowment, Inc. If you have any questions, please contact the Starke County Community Foundation at 574-772-3665.
