Knox City Council Continues Discussions on Peddler Ordinance

The Knox City Council continued discussions on updating the peddler ordinance during their meeting Tuesday.

The current peddler ordinance only allows food truck vendors one, eight-hour period in 60 days. The council discussed what they thought would be the best option moving forward.

In a previous meeting, it was mentioned by several council members, one eight-hour period in 60 days is too strict. The idea of allowing food truck vendors to set up one day every two weeks with no time limit that day was discussed at that time as the best approach to ease restrictions.

In that same meeting, Mayor Dennis Estok mentioned the city needs protect their brick and mortar stores but believed allowing one day with no time limit every two weeks per vendor was a good start on amending the ordinance. He also informed the council on potentially offering monthly or even up to yearly permit fees for interested vendors. Currently, vendors pay for a one day permit.

During their meeting Tuesday, the council talked about potentially amending the ordinance to allow vendors to set up one day per week instead of every two weeks as previously discussed. The council considered offering three month, six month and one year permits to vendors interested in setting up year round. The council seemed open to the idea in allowing food truck vendors to set up year round but once per seven days.

The council took amending the ordinance under advisement. They plan to have an official amendment to the peddlers ordinance at a future meeting.
