North Judson Town Council Considers Firearm Purchase for Police Department

Officials from the North Judson Police Department put in a request for the purchase of four new M&P 15 MOE short barrel rifles for $3,119.96 at a recent North Judson Town Council meeting.

The Police Department currently owns four long barreled rifles that are over ten years old. It was explained that the short barrel rifle makes for better maneuverability, and causes less fatigue while carrying, which was the reasoning behind the request. It makes it easier for officers to perform their duties.

Options of trading in two of the older rifles or reselling them to help cover some of the price are being considered.  The firearms would be purchased out of the Police Departmen’ts Equipment Fund.

A motion was made for the approval of the purchase request and it passed unanimously by all present council members.
