Starke County Parks and Recreation Board Updated on Riparian Right-of-Way

The Starke County Parks and Recreation Board received a letter of confirmation from the IDNR stating that with the purchase of the Bass Lake Beach and Campground properties they now have the riparian right-of-way from the shore out to 300′ in the water at the beach.

These riparian rights give the county authority to restrict the mooring of boats overnight without permission from a property owner within their riparian right-of-way.

With confirmation from the DNR, the board members approved the purchase and installation of new signage informing boaters that there will be no overnight mooring without permission and that violators will be subject to immediate DNR notification.

Also discussed at the last Starke County Parks Board meeting, the DNR will be holding a public hearing for Bass Lake residents to hear public feedback on piers going back in to the water on Monday, May 22 at 5 p.m. CT at the Bass Lake Property Owners Building.

This hearing will not be a question and answer. DNR will hear arguments from both sides and take it back to a committee to be decided. After a decision has been made, there will be an 18-day grace period for appeals.  Dependent on judgment from the DNR, piers will start going in around June 18 or 19.
