Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Starke County

One person was arrested on drug charges Monday, May 15 following a traffic stop in Starke County.

A Starke County Sheriff’s Department deputy initiated a traffic stop on a red Chevy Cruze while driving on Toto Road west of Range Road after reportedly observing a traffic violation just before 8 p.m. CT.

The K9 deputy and K9 Robby were called to assist in the stop and aided in locating approximately 32 grams of a clear crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report.

As a result of an investigation, Kathryn Cooper was arrested and booked into the Starke County Justice Center on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine as a Level 3 Felony, possession of methamphetamine as a Level 6 Felony, and resisting law enforcement as a Class A Misdemeanor.  The Starke County Prosecutor’s Office will determine formal charges. 

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
