Starke County Commissioners Make Park Board Appointment

The Starke County Commissioners made an appointment to the Starke County Park Board during their meeting last week.

In a previous meeting it was announced Park Board member Tom Bush had resigned his seat. Commissioner Don Binkley nominated Bernadette Welter-Manuel to fill the position. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.

Starke County Auditor Rachel Oesterreich told WKVI News, Welter-Manuel was expected to be seated on the board pending further review by County Attorney Justin Schramm. She added Schramm had advised the commissioners because of Welter-Manuel’s current county employment, it was found to be a lucrative position for her and that she would not be able to fill the seat.

Since that time, the commissioners weren’t able to fill the vacant seat on the Park Board. During last weeks commissioner meeting, Tom Bush was present to express his interest in rejoining the Park Board. The commissioners made a motion to reappoint Tom Bush to the Park Board. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.
