Join the Starke County Economic Development Foundation and the City of Knox for the Starke Tank 2023 Countywide Business Pitch Competition Sunday, August 20. The free event starts at 3 p.m. CT in the Knox High School auditorium.
Nine contestants will compete for seed money to establish, grow, or expand a business in Starke County. They will each have five minutes to present their vision to the three judges as well as the audience. The judges will have an opportunity to ask follow-up questions, and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up based on their scoring.
“Starke Tank is unique in that the prize money is donated by local entities who understand that a strong and vibrant small business community is essential to quality of life in our county,” SCEDF Executive Director Lisa Dan said. “The City of Knox is our presenting sponsor this year, and we are excited to have the support of Mayor Dennis Estok and the City Council.”
There is no charge for contestants to participate, and each business owner receives free one-on-one advice from an advisor with the Northwest Indiana Small Business Development Center.
“Our goal is to help small businesses succeed throughout Starke County,” Dan added.
Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for the Community Services of Starke County food pantry. Each person who attends will also receive free raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes donated by local businesses. Master of ceremonies Harold Welter will draw prize winners between presentations, and prizes can be picked up after the event concludes.
Prior Starke Tank winners include Irelynd Alexis Boutique, The Point Drive In, and Abrams Studios.
