Hamlet Town Council Working to Clean up Property

The Hamlet Town Council discussed an effort to clean up a property on Hamlet Street that was destroyed by a fire a few months ago.

Town Marshal Clint Norem will be working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management on the next steps in the process as it has been deemed an unsafe property.

Additionally, the Town of Hamlet will be putting in two water meters at the Starke County Fairgrounds on Division Street.  The town provides water to the fairgrounds, but a water report must be filed with the state and in order to comply with more accurate amounts, the town must install two meters at the fairgrounds to keep track of water usage.

The Starke Street project is nearing completion.  The only feature left is the installation of street lights and they have yet to be delivered. Town officials hope they come in yet this month.

The Starke Street project was a Community Crossings Matching Grant Project.  The total cost was $276,450 with the state providing $207,337.50 of that cost.  The remainder of the funds was provided by the Town of Hamlet out of the EDIT Fund.
