Students at the Knox Community School Corporation are returning to school today.
With school starting at Knox today and many school corporations welcoming students back to the classroom next week, residents should begin to watch for school buses as bus drivers start up routes to pick up and drop off children for the school day.
When approaching a stopped school bus from any direction and it has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, motorists are required to stop, even on multiple lane highways where there is no barrier or median separating lanes of traffic.
Motorists traveling on a highway divided by a barrier, such as cable barrier, concrete wall, or grassy median, are required to stop only if they are traveling in the same direction as the school bus. Prepare for increased pedestrian traffic in the morning and afternoon hours, and be aware of children standing along the roadway at a bus stop.
It is against the law to disregard an activated stop arm on a school bus.
