A North Judson man was arrested Tuesday, August 8 following a traffic stop in the area of 250 South and State Road 39 in Starke County.
According to the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, the passenger in the vehicle, 42-year-old Brad Allen of North Judson, appeared to have a large item on his person. An officer attempted a pat-down of his pockets to check for weapons, but Allen allegedly forcibly resisted. Police say Allen discarded the object from his pocket underneath an officer’s squad car.
A bag was recovered that contained three other bags. One bag contained approximately 4.27 grams of a green, leafy, plant-like substance, while the other two bags contained a white crystal-like substance weighing approximately 17.69 grams that later field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the report.
In a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers reportedly recovered a scale with drug residue, and about 50 clear sealable bags, items that police say are typically used in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
A glass pipe with white residue and a revolver handgun were also reportedly located inside of the vehicle.
Allen was placed into custody and taken to the Starke County Justice Center. Upon arrival at the facility, a bag was allegedly located with a gray colored rock identified as heroin weighing approximately 0.94 grams.
Allen faces preliminary charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful carrying of a handgun, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. His bond was set at $33,000 cash.
Formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
