The Starke County Commissioners will be meeting with officials with the Indiana Department of Health Monday, August 7 to discuss the county’s commitment to making Starke County a healthier place and to consider opting-in to receive public health funding approved by Indiana lawmakers during the 2023 legislative session.
To receive the funding, counties must opt in and agree to provide core public health services.
The funding to be received by the county is based off of recommendations set forth by the Governor’s Public Health Commission that was established to examine the state’s public health infrastructure and make recommendations for improvement. The goal was to identify strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies to ensure that all residents have access to core public health services that help prevent diseases and promote positive health outcomes.
As a result, local statewide public health investments total $75 million in 2024 and $150 million in 2025.
Monday’s meeting is set at 2:30 p.m. CT in the ground floor meeting room in the Starke County Annex Building No. 1 at 53 E. Mound Street in Knox.
