Kankakee Valley REMC, a local electric cooperative, is pleased to offer a unique opportunity for students interested in a trade career. The cooperative is planning a Trades Camp at their headquarters in Wanatah. This event is open to students in their junior or senior year of high school.
The Trades Camp will have professionals from various trades in attendance including plumbers, electricians, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters, carpenters, operators and lineworkers. The Trades Camp runs as a full-day program, starting at 8:30 a.m. and concluding at 2:30 p.m. CT November 2. The day will begin with networking with the different trades, allowing students to talk one-on-one with experienced professionals, where they will share their experiences, offer advice, and provide knowledge about a day in the life of the trade. The afternoon will include practical, hands-on experience in specific trades or skills, allowing students to gain more real-world knowledge about the profession.
There is no cost for this event. Students must apply to the event using the application found at https://www.kvremc.com/community/youth-programs/trades-camp/. The deadline to apply is October 27, but students are encouraged to apply early as there are only 50 spots available.
