The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department investigated a personal injury crash Monday, September 25.
Police and emergency responders were called to the intersection of State Road 2 and County Road 500 West shortly after 6 p.m. CT. Police say a white 1999 Dodge van driven by 66-year-old Terry Curry of Kingsford Heights was traveling south on County Road 500 West when Curry failed to yield to a red 1990 Ford dump truck traveling east on State Road 2. The van entered the dump truck’s path of travel and the vehicles collided and overturned, according to the report. As a result, the gravel being hauled by the dump truck littered the roadway.
The driver of the dump truck, 58-year-old David Henrich, of Rolling Prairie, and Curry were both injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. A front seat passenger of the van, 71-year-old Cheryl Curry, was critically injured. She was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment.
Alcohol and toxicology tests are pending.
The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the La Porte and Westville Police Departments, La Porte County EMS, Lutheran Air, and Scipio Township Volunteer Fire Department.
