Visit with Santa and take a scenic train ride through the Starke County countryside this holiday season.
Santa Trains begin operation in late November and continue through December at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum. Passengers will have an opportunity to ride in a vintage commuter coach for approximately five miles from North Judson to the small town of English Lake. After crossing the Kankakee River, the train returns to the depot and museum grounds. During the trip, passengers will enjoy visiting with Santa and each child will receive a gift bag from Santa.
Diesel-powered trains depart every Saturday from November 25 through December 23 at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. CT. The total length of each excursion is approximately one hour.
Ticket prices begin at $20.00 and are pro-rated, depending upon age. Purchasing tickets online is recommended, as trains have sold out in past years. Seating is restricted, in order to give Santa enough time to visit and take pictures with all the passengers.
Purchase tickets at www.hoosiervalley.org.
Before or after the train excursion, be sure to visit the museum and grounds at 507 Mulberry Street in North Judson where admission is always free. The Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum is located at the former crossroads of the Pennsylvania, Chesapeake & Ohio, Erie, and New York Central Railroads. It has one of the largest collections of working railroad signals. For more information, call on Saturdays at 574-896-3950.
