October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Officials from the Starke County Coalition Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) encourage community members to share information about domestic violence awareness on social media, teach children about healthy relationships and warning signs of abuse, learn the facts and myths about domestic violence and share knowledge with family and friends, adopt a family for the holidays, volunteer at local domestic violence organizations, become a support person for someone in an abusive relationship, and trust and listen to survivors.

Those who need help can call CADA at 574-772-3331 or 1-800-933-0466 for emergency shelter.

Officials are looking for supplies for the Phoenix House which is an abuse shelter in Knox.  They are currently in need of paper towels, toilet paper, dryer sheets, laundry detergent, toilet bowl cleaner, liquid hand soap, glass cleaner, Lysol wipes, Kleenex, bleach, dish soap and 13-gallon garbage bags.  If a donation is ready, call CADA to meet with a representative to collect items.

Residents are encouraged to support domestic violence awareness and wear purple on “Purple Thursday” which is October 19.
