Starke County Transformation Committee Looking to Launch Emergency Warming Shelter This Winter

The Starke County Transformation Committee is planning to launch an emergency warming shelter this winter which will be for those who are experiencing homelessness.

The Starke County Transformation Committee is a group of concerned citizens from area healthcare, social service, faith-based organizations, and community development agencies who are working to create a more equitable and inclusive community for all. The committee is focused on housing and transportation needs as well as coordinating assistance and resources throughout the community. The warming shelter is just one of the many ways that the committee is working to improve the lives of Starke County residents.  The Transformation Committee meets every third Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. CT at Community Services of Starke County.  All are invited to attend.

The committee members are looking for various locations throughout the county for a warming center, such as a church, fire station or community building to be rotational host sites that will be monitored by volunteers.  Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older and training will be provided.

Donations of supplies for these host sites are also needed.

Those who have a host site and would like to provide the location in this effort, or anyone who would like to volunteer or donate, can contact Cindy Benke at Community Services of Starke County at 574-772-7070.
