The Winamac Town Council members opened bids Monday night for a new waste collection contract.
Town Manager Brad Zellers said five companies placed bids which included LAP Waste, Waste Management, Apex Waste, On Point Waste Services, and Republic Services.
Zellers said On Point Waste Services out of Logansport submitted the lowest bid at $154,800 for a 5-year waste collection contract. He noted that he will review the bids to ensure all bid specifications are met and provide the Winamac Town Council with a bid recommendation for approval in November.
Zellers said the contract does not begin until March, but getting out the bids ahead of schedule will allow time for the switch of trash receptacles if a new company is chosen.
In other business, Greg Henry presented the town council with a certificate as a thank you for the town’s support toward the Memorial Swinging Bridge lighting project.
The council also approved a request for an easement for the Panhandle Pathway trail extension project.
