Starke County emergency responders were called an accident on U.S. 30 just east of 50 East just before 1 a.m. CT Wednesday, November 1 that resulted in injuries.
Police say three semis were involved, each pulling a trailer, along with a box truck turned over on the north side of the roadway. A semi tractor-trailer driven by Consuelo Vasquez, 39, of McAllen, TX; a semi tractor-trailer driven by Habib Habib, 35, of Columbus, OH; a semi tractor-double trailer driven by Oscar Reynolds, 35, of Marion, OH; box-van driven by Soe Aung, 40, of Fort Wayne, IN were those involved.
It was determined the accident occurred due to icy road conditions, with one driver being cited for speeds greater than reasonable under road and weather conditions, according to the report.
Two drivers had complaints of pain, with one being transported to Northwest Starke for non-life threatening injuries.
Starke County Sheriff’s Department deputies, along with members from the Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department and Starke County medics responded to the scene.
The traffic accident resulted in the closure of both the eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 30 for approximately three hours. The Knox-Center Township Fire Department assisted in providing traffic control.
Deputies remind all drivers to be cautious when operating a vehicle during inclement weather and reduce speeds when necessary.
