A San Pierre man was arrested Monday, November 6 after Starke County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Jackson Street in San Pierre regarding a possible domestic dispute.
Officers responded to the scene at 4:30 p.m. CT where police say they found that 34-year-old Hazen Moffitt repeatedly and intentionally struck an unoccupied black Nissan parked in the driveway at the residence with a gray Ford Edge. He also reportedly struck a fence at a church nearby. He then fled the scene. Officers from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office and North Judson Police Department located Moffitt at his San Pierre home, along with a heavily-damaged Ford Edge at the residence.
No injuries were reported during this incident.
Officers determined that Moffitt was under the influence of alcohol, according to the report. He was taken into custody and transported to the Starke County Justice Center where he was booked on preliminary charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Formal charges will be determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
