The Winamac Town Council members opened fire truck bids Monday night.
They received two bids from Alexis Fire Equipment out of Alexis, Illinois. One bid was for a standard truck for $571,187 and a custom chassis in the amount of $284,905. The bids were taken under consideration.
The council did award a trash collection bid. The lowest responsible bid came from On Point Trash Service out of Logansport for $154,800 each year for five years. Town Manager Brad Zellers said that bid will save the town thousands over the next few years.
Zellers previously said the contract does not begin until March, but getting a bid approved ahead of schedule will allow time for the switch of trash receptacles.
