Retired Indiana State Representative, The Honorable Douglas Lynn Gutwein, will be laid to rest tomorrow (Friday, December 8)
Gutwein was a former resident of Francesville who served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and received orders in Vietnam where he drove a mail truck for the Army.
After his honorable service in Vietnam, Doug returned to Francesville and worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Valparaiso. He later moved to California where he worked as a mail carrier and met his wife. After they were married in 1979, they moved back to Francesville where they started their family.
Gutwein ran a steel wheel manufacturing company known as FTC Products for many years. He also served on the Francesville Town Council and was later elected to the Indiana State House of Representatives in 2008. He represented the citizens of District 16 for 14 years.
After retiring from office in 2022, Doug and his wife, Mary Lew, began the process of closing that chapter of their life in Indiana and moved to North Carolina to be with family and grandchildren. He passed away there December 1 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 75.
He helped many people while he served in office and in his everyday life and will be missed.
Funeral services for Douglas Lynn Gutwein will be Friday, December 8 at 2 p.m. ET at the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. Visitation is Thursday, December 7 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET at the Apostolic Fellowship Center in Francesville and two hours prior to services at the church Friday.
Arrangements are being handled by the Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville.
