Winamac Town Council Approves Bid for New Fire Truck

The Winamac Town Council members approved a bid for a new fire truck for the Winamac Fire Department.

Town Manager Brad Zellers said the council approved a bid from Alexis for a red custom fire truck in the amount of $684,905. The fire department will likely not be able to take possession of the truck for at least a year since it will take some time to build.

The town council members also took action to approve additional funds for the lagoon project. Some 30-year-old piping at the base of the lagoon was replaced at a cost of $26,767 as approved by the council. That money will be paid out of the town’s American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The council approved a bid in September from Merrell Brothers, Inc. to manage and recycle bio-solids within the city’s lagoon at the town’s wastewater plant at 1950 South US Highway 35.

The lagoon project is nearly complete. Zellers said the sludge has been removed from the lagoon and the diffusers replaced. It should be back in operation this week.
