Emergency Personnel Respond to Friday Morning Accidents

Starke County emergency personnel responded to two storm-related accidents Friday, January 12.

Emergency responders were called to the area of U.S. 35 and 800 N. for a single-vehicle slide-off just after 9 a.m. CT.

Police say an investigation found that a semi tractor/trailer was southbound on U.S. 35 near 800 N. when the driver lost control and ran off the roadway, obstructing the northbound lane.

Jason Williams, 23, of Evansville was not injured.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kingsford Heights Police Department and Hamlet-Davis Township Fire Department.

In a second incident just after 9:30 a.m. CT, emergency responders were called to State Road 23 and County Road 950 E. for a single vehicle accident.

Upon investigation, police say the driver, 18-year-old Alexia Podell of Plymouth was attempting to allow traffic to pass her when she lost control of the vehicle, which then rolled, nearly striking a utility pole.

Podell was not injured in the incident.

The Starke County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Starke County EMS, Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department, and Howard’s Towing.

Police urge drivers to use caution, to allow additional travel time, and to reduce speed in winter weather conditions.
