The Hamlet Town Council members were able to finalize the report from Bruce Wringer to complete his Eagle Scout project.

Wringer, who has been in the scouting program since the first grade, constructed an octagon-shaped “gaga ball pit” for the Hamlet Town Park. He previously went before the Hamlet Town Council to get approval for the project and was approved by the council.

Gaga ball is a variant of dodgeball. Instead of running around throwing dodgeballs, the gaga ball pit limits the impact of potential injury. Players slap or hit the ball, aiming to hit other players at or below the knees. If you are hit, you are out. The last player in the pit is the winner. The game is relatively inclusive, since individuals don’t need to be able to run fast, and smaller individuals may even have an advantage over taller individuals.

Wringer said in a previous meeting that by introducing a gaga ball pit to the Hamlet Town Park, he hopes older teens and adults will come to enjoy the park more often.

According to Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts, Wringer also presented a check for any future maintenance that may need done in the amount of $472.70. That money came from leftover donations he had received.

In other business, the Town of Hamlet will be offering the 50/50 sidewalk program again this year. Any interested residents wanting to participate in the program can call the Hamlet Town Hall at 574-867-3541 for more information.
