Starke County volunteers will be administering the Point-in-Time (PIT) Count for the first time ever on Wednesday, January 24! This nationwide effort is conducted annually to help identify community members who are facing homelessness and housing insecurity. The data collected helps reflect the current needs of the county and can have an influence on future funding.
Trained volunteers are asked to meet at Community Services of Starke County at 7:30 a.m. CT to receive printed surveys and coordinate about location coverage.
While there will be some volunteers out canvasing various parts of the county, there will be others stationed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 1600 S Heaton Street in Knox, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Water, coffee, hot soup and sandwiches will be provided on site while volunteers conduct surveys with walk-ins from the community.
Individuals interested in being involved with future efforts related to addressing homelessness in Starke County are encouraged to join upcoming Transformation Committee meetings which are always held at 10 a.m. CT on the third Tuesday of every month at Community Services of Starke County. The next meeting is scheduled to take place Tuesday, February 20.
The Point in Time Count will also be held in Pulaski County today.
