Starke County emergency responders were called to a fatal pedestrian and train accident in Knox around 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday, February 17.
According to the Knox City Police Department, officers with the department and deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Office were called to an area of the railroad tracks between Pacific Avenue and Division Road where an accident occurred. Police say preliminary evidence suggested that 20-year-old Jonathan Peddicord was hit by a Norfolk Southern train and passed away at the scene as a result of a tragic accident.
The family has been notified by the Starke County Coroner’s Office.
The Knox-Center Township Fire Department and Starke County EMS also assisted at the scene.
Officials from Norfolk Southern and the Knox Police Department will be conducting a full investigation.
