Starke County Resident to Receive Sagamore of Wabash Honor

Commercial Artist Mitch Markovitz of Knox will be receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash honor.

According to the State of Indiana’s website, the Sagamore of the Wabash award is highest honor, of which the Governor of Indiana bestows. It is a personal tribute usually given to those who have rendered a distinguished service to the state or to the governor. Among those who have received Sagamores have been astronauts, presidents, ambassadors, artists, musicians, politicians, and ordinary citizens who have contributed greatly to Hoosier heritage.

Mitch Markovitz describes himself as an artist, illustrator, railwayman, and family man and has practiced all of those arts in Indiana for the past 40 years and continues to do so from his home studio in Knox.

He has illustrated many pieces following the art of trains and historic places and attractions in Indiana, including structures and sites around Starke County.

Markovitz and his wife, Renee, live in Knox and their two adult children, Julia and Matt, live nearby.
