Winamac Town Council Discusses Tax Abatement for Proposed Housing Project

The Winamac Town Council members held a special meeting Wednesday afternoon where they agreed to a letter of support for a tax abatement, and/or payment in lieu of taxes, and/or a utility tap fee forgiveness in another step toward a proposed housing project in Winamac.

Travis Vencell of Sullivan Development in Bloomington presented the information to the council members Wednesday as the company seeks funding from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority with potential help from Pulaski County with a loan toward the construction of 35, two-bedroom townhome units on Galbreath Drive behind the Winamac Plaza. The project is estimated at $9 million.

Winamac Town Manager Brad Zellers said the Winamac Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals approved recommendations in meetings in January for two parcels in that area to be rezoned from C-2 and R-2, respectfully, to R-3 for large projects which was ultimately approved by the Winamac Town Council in a previous meeting.
