Two Maryland residents were arrested in La Porte County Thursday, March 21 after a traffic stop on the Indiana Toll Road at the 52-mile marker.

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Unit deputy reportedly observed a passenger vehicle pass by following a commercial vehicle too closely. Additionally, the vehicle’s windows were tinted extremely dark and obstructed the view of anything inside the vehicle, according to the report.

As the traffic stop progressed, police say probable cause was established that criminal activity was present. Following the arrival of a second interdiction deputy, a search of the vehicle yielded suspected illegal narcotics.

As a result, the driver, 27-year-old Chelsea Hahn of Middle River Maryland, and the passenger, 28-year-old Sadiq Heyward, of Baltimore, Maryland, were taken into custody and transported to the La Porte County Jail on preliminary charges of dealing cocaine, dealing in methamphetamine, dealing in a schedule I, II, or III controlled substance, and dealing marijuana. They are being held on a $50,005 cash bond through La Porte Circuit Court.

Formal charges will be determined by the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
