La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Accident

The La Porte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatality hit and run accident involving a pedestrian that occurred just after 6 a.m. CT Monday, April 22.

Deputies were dispatched to the 11,000 West block of U.S. 6 for a person who had been struck by a vehicle. Police say a deceased man was located at the scene in the 11,800 West block. The man was found lying off the westbound lane of travel near a ditch, according to the report. A citizen who had been traveling along U.S. 6 located the man and contacted authorities.

Additional personnel, including members of the agency’s Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. U.S. 6 was closed for approximately three-and-a-half hours for the on-scene investigation.

Identification of the decedent is being withheld, pending notification of the victim’s family by the La Porte County Coroner’s Office.
