Nine Arrested for Nuisance Issues in La Porte County

Nine people were arrested Friday, April 12 following several complaints stemming from a residence at 2866 S. County Road 550 West.

According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, deputies have responded to about 15 calls for service since 2021 for a variety of complaints including alleged sexual battery, narcotic overdoses, thefts, noise and fire complaints.

An incident involving a fight at that residence April 10 prompted detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division to begin an investigation into the residence and rightful ownership. Police say it was discovered the homeowner passed away in 2021, and a subject identified as Jason Stryjewski has been staying at the residence since then. Contact was established with relatives of the deceased homeowner who relayed that Stryjewski, along with any other occupants, were no longer welcome at the residence. Officials with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office informed several subjects April 11 that they were to vacate the residence.

Based upon Stryjewski’s vulgar response, investigators suspected that he and many others would ignore the directive, according to the report. An arrest warrant for Stryjewski’s arrest was obtained for charges of maintaining a common nuisance and criminal trespass.

Officers went to the residence April 12 and arrested nine people, including Stryjewski. Three subjects were located inside the residence, while the remaining six subjects were found to be residing inside passenger and recreational vehicles on the property.

Austin Halderman, 23, Jonathan McCullough, 33, David Mrozinski, 39, Christopher J. Michaels, 32, Gary Morton II, 41, Amber Stacy, 35, Brandi Dorsey, 27, and Dakota Charlson, 22, were arrested and each booked into the La Porte County Jail on a preliminary charge of visiting a common nuisance.

All of the arrestees were instructed not to return to the property, or they will be charged with an additional offense of criminal trespass.

Formal charges will be determined by the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office.

Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
