Starke County Commissioners and Council Given Highway Department Update

The Starke County Commissioners and Council were given an update on the highway department during their joint session Monday.

Starke County Highway Department Interim Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced 900 E. between State Road 10 and 625 S. has been closed at times this spring due to the weather. She stated this is an area that floods frequently and the department has had to close the road several times. She added they are looking into things that can be done to prevent flooding in the future.

Oesterreich went on to announce she will be attending a training seminar this month at the Purdue Road School Transportation Conference and Expo. She stated at this training they will discuss asset management requirements, data collection, data analysis, pavement and bridge preservation, best construction practices, best fleet and equipment practices and also how to lower department costs. The training is scheduled for April 29 and 30.
