Candidates File for Office in Pulaski County

Several candidates have filed for office in Pulaski County for the November General Election.

Democrat Doug Denton filed for Pulaski County Commissioner District 1. He will face Republican Jenny Halleck Knebel in the November 5 election.

Since there is a vacancy in that seat on the Democratic ticket on the November ballot, Denton was able to file by selection of the party to fill the vacancy on the ballot due to a vacancy resulting from no candidate being nominated at a primary election.

A Libertarian candidate may conduct a county convention to nominate candidates to take action to fill a ballot vacancy following a convention and for the Libertarian Party to certify candidates nominated at convention or to certify a candidate selected to fill a vacancy following convention.

The Indiana Election Calendar shows that the deadline in which those actions that can take place is Wednesday, July 3 by noon local time.

An Independent or minor party candidate may file a petition of nomination with a county voter registration office for verification of petition signatures by Monday, July 1 at noon local time for the November election. The number of signatures of registered voters within the precinct in which the candidate will serve that equals two percent of the number of votes cast for the Secretary of State in that precinct in the last General Election. There are a certain number of signatures needed for certain positions a candidate wishes to file for to be included on the ballot.

Additionally, the window is open for school board candidates to file a petition for candidacy in the November election. The deadline to file is Thursday, June 20 by noon local time.

In Pulaski County, Dennis Gutwein has filed for West Central School Board At-Large seat, Jonathan Gutwein for West Central School Board Gillam Township seat, Scott Hanson for Eastern Pulaski School Board Monroe Township seat and Greg Kiser for Eastern Pulaski School Board Monroe Township seat.
