A residential household hazardous waste collection event is planned for Starke County residents for Saturday, May 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT at the Starke County Environmental Management Recycle Center at 3835 E. 250 N. in Knox.
Televisions will be accepted for $25 per set, and there is a limit of one computer monitor for free. Unlimited quantities of CPUs, keyboards, printers, and appliances will be collected.
Acceptable hazardous waste items that will be accepted include: oil and oil filters, batteries, mercury thermometers, pet spray and dip, flea collars, poisons, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, chemicals, ammonia, oil-based paints, solvents, thinners, cleaners, insect repellent, waste fuels, old gasoline, antifreeze, fluorescent tubes, CFLs, aerosols, pool supplies, and adhesives and glues.
Sharps must be in containers.
There are several items that will NOT be accepted including latex paint, tires, residential garbage, furniture, construction debris, and recyclables.
The allowable items will be taken during the event time only.
Medications can be disposed of at the Starke County Justice Center at any time.
