IDEM Forecasts Air Quality Action Day in North Central, Northwest Indiana for May 18

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) forecasts an Air Quality Action Day for Saturday, May 18, 2024, for North Central and Northwest Indiana.

Ozone levels are expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups range (Orange) in Northern Indiana including Knox, La Porte, Logansport, Michigan City, Plymouth, Peru, South Bend, Valparaiso, Warsaw, Winamac, and all other cities within the area.

High temperatures are expected to reach well above seasonal averages for this time of the year – which combined with mostly sunny skies, low humidity and a lake breeze, may lead to ozone levels increasing to unhealthy for sensitive groups. Air Quality Action Days indicate anticipated higher levels of ground-level ozone only. Other factors may affect overall air quality.
