The Knox-Center Township Fire Department is set to enhance its emergency response capabilities with new stabilization equipment thanks to grants from the Starke County Community Foundation.
The department received a total of $22,000 to replace its aging pneumatic lifting bags and associated equipment, which has been in service for over 30 years. These lifting bags play a critical role in rescue operations by providing stable support and lifting capabilities during vehicle extrications, building collapses, and other emergency scenarios. The updated equipment will contribute to the overall safety and well-being of both residents and firefighters.
“We recognize the importance of equipping our local fire departments with necessary resources for safe and efficient emergency responses,” said Jacque Ryan, SCCF Director of Development. “We are proud to support this department and all local-first responders in their mission to protect and serve the community!”
Over the years, the Starke County Community Foundation has provided funding for major projects at local fire departments including a $25,000 grant to assist with a single bay addition at the Koontz Lake-Oregon Township Fire Department and granting $24,470 for the installation of a new emergency siren at the San Pierre Volunteer Fire Department. Last year, the Starke County Community Foundation presented several pop-grants to local first-responder organizations including all seven fire departments serving the county, all three municipal police departments, as well as the Starke County Sheriff’s Office and Starke County EMS.
