The Oregon-Davis School Board members held a work session prior to their regular meeting last week.
Superintendent Bill Bennett reported during the board’s regular meeting that the work session was geared toward taking comments from the staff to see what the corporation can do better or what is going well. Ideas for the future were also given to the board members to consider.
Outside of the work session, Bennett told the board that he has been meeting with Knox and North Judson-San Pierre school officials about a new Starke County Cooperative to take the place of the JESSE Cooperative. Bennett said with the savings experienced with the option to host a cooperative within the three county schools, there is initial discussion of hosting an alternative classroom at the Oregon-Davis School Corporation and one at the Knox Community School Corporation. One classroom would be for 5th through 8th grade students and the other would be for 9th to 12th grade students. If an alternative school is needed at the Elementary School level, it will be hosted at the North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation.
Bennett went on to say that alternative classrooms are for students who may have a suspension or expulsion, or need a different classroom environment. It is designed to help students graduate from high school.
