Petition Filing for School Board Candidates Begins May 21

Candidates wishing to run for a school board seat may begin to file petitions with the Starke County Clerk’s Office in the Starke County Courthouse in Knox and at the Pulaski County Clerk’s Office’s temporary location at 117 E. Main Street in Winamac Tuesday, May 21.

Candidates have to complete petitions and the names on those petitions have to be verified as being registered voters within the boundaries of the school corporation. Ten signatures are required in order to file. Voters living in the school corporation limits can vote for all candidates. In Starke County, the required Can-12 and Can-34 forms can be found on the county’s website at www.starke.in.gov.

The open seats on the Knox Community School Board include the California and Washington Township seat, and Center Township seats 2, 3 and 4. Candidates need to reside in those jurisdictions in order to serve.

There are two At-Large seats open on the Oregon-Davis School Board. Candidates must live in the Oregon Township or Davis Township areas in order to serve.

The open seats on the Eastern Pulaski School Board are three Monroe Township seats and one Van Buren Township seat.

The open seats on the West Central School Board include one White Post seat, one Jefferson Township seat, and one At-Large seat. There is also an open Gillam Township seat from Jasper County.

The deadline to file to run for school board is Thursday, June 20 at noon local time.
