Two new sports will be launched for Marshall Starke Special Olympics participants in the EKS Season.
In addition to the launch of cornhole and softball to last year’s restart of the program, flag football and equestrian have been added to this year’s lineup of sports in the EKS Season.
The Plymouth Parks Department sponsors the fields for softball, and attendance this year has grown so multiple fields will be occupied with athletes.
Cornhole will start in July and practices are held at the Plymouth Church of the Heartland.
The organization will be working with the Hard Knox Gym to offer flag football and they will work with the Golden Horseshoe Saddle Club with equestrian practices in July. Members have agreed to bring horses out to their arena for practices. These same members have agreed to take their horses to the Special Olympics State Competition on September 28 in Danville.
As the Marshall Starke Special Olympics organization grows, coaches and volunteers are a necessity. If there is an interest in joining the group, call 574-935-0513. Monetary donations for uniforms and additional equipment are needed. They can be sent to P.O. Box 1104 in Plymouth, IN 46563. Checks can be made payable to Special Olympics Indiana Marshall & Starke Counties.
