A Knox man was injured in a motorcycle accident Wednesday, June 19 in the area of 3800 S. 300 E. in Knox.
Deputies from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department, and emergency responders from Starke County EMS and the Bass Lake-California Township Fire Department were dispatched to the area at 9:40 p.m. CT.
Upon arrival, the driver of the motorcycle, 60-year-old Philip Myers, of Knox, was on the side of the road badly injured with reported serious injuries.
Myers was tended to by medics on scene for his injuries and then was transported to Northwest Health Starke to be airlifted to a regional hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
An investigation found that Myers struck a deer that was in the roadway, according to the report. Once Myers struck the deer, it appeared he was thrown off his 2001 Harley Davidson and landed face down in the roadway causing much of his injuries.
While tending to Myers, medics located a clear plastic bag in his pants pocket which was given to the custody of police, according to the report. Police say the substance subsequently field tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.
Formal charges will be requested and determined by the Starke County Prosecutor’s Office.
Suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
