All squad cars on the North Judson Police Department fleet of vehicles will now be equipped with Automatic External Defibrillators, thanks to a grant from the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.
Officer Patrick Quail told the North Judson Town Council members Monday, July 1 that he applied for a grant in this effort and he was recently notified of the grant award in the amount of $7,776.
Quail commented that having these devices in the available hands of police officers is critical.
“Coming from a larger police department, we had them in our squad cars working at La Porte City and I used them twice while I was in service there,” said Quail. “Medics get tied up and whether it’s a cardiac arrest or an overdose – all of our officers are trained in first aid, CPR, and the AED usage. If it’s a chance for our officers to save a life, I thought it was a good idea.”
Four AEDs will be purchased with the grant funds.
The council thanked Officer Quail for his efforts.
